Orbital Decay v1.0
2400 » Devlog
You call it two days late for Halloween, but I call it over 300 days early for next Halloween: Orbital Decay, a space-horror scenario generator, is now available. This one has a few firsts for a 2400 game:
- Ship map: Find your way around a derelict starship. Maybe take it if things work out okay.
- Broad skills: The only skills suggested are Command, Maintenance, Science, and Security. Characters start with fewer "things" than in other 2400 modules, though, so it should still be broadly compatible. This should make it even faster to get started for one-shots.
- Stress rules: Stress can be helpful! It can also be horrible.
- Creature rules: Alien horrors (and other creatures) don't really have "stats" in 2400. Instead, this game shows how to make them as a combination of their behavior and their defenses.
This module is basically my love letter to Mothership, which offers some of the greatest sci-fi horror modules I've ever seen. If you give it a try, whether with a Mothership module or the scenario generator included here, please let me know how it goes!

For when you need a bit more variety in your Observations on the Derelict:

Orbital Decay takes the cake for my favorite 2400 variant at this point. The condensed nature of the setting and enemy behaviors are great and definitely make this much more "instantly playable".
Thanks! I think it actually helped that I failed to run it on Halloween: I realized that I was pressed for time and had to redesign a bit to condense it enough! 😅
